Studying Games Development

Dark Liquid

As you may well be aware, I’m currently studying computer games development via a study-at-home course. The course has been the victim of a lot of vitriol and doubt from the internet at large as towards it’s authenticity but from my own experiences so far it seems quite good. The course is question is the [...]

how to lose customers

the social technologies blog

Wow, I’ve been staggered by the amount of bad customer experience I’ve had this last week or so – I’m writing this entry partly as a personal exorcism and then I’ll summarise at the end what I would of done differently in their shoes. 1) HSBC – it took me more than a month to speak [...]

Doing stuff

Dark Liquid

Okay, I wont deny it. Yes, I’m a miserable bastard. Even my own Dad has told me this on one occasion and rightly so, for it is most certainly true. Generally I dislike pretty much everything, I enter into things expecting disappointment. I’m a natural pessimist, I guess because I really dislike the feeling of disappointment [...]

Titanium and other developments

Dark Liquid

I’ve been playing around with Appcelerator’s Titanium system and so far it’s been interesting. I haven’t done very much in the way of app development yet as I am still learning the APIs but I finally managed to get it to run under Linux (Ubunty Jaunty specifically) which is a plus! How to get the Titanium [...]

slides from the DJC talk

the social technologies blog

As promised, the slides from my talk at the DJC event on Wednesday. DJC-talk-170609 (PDF) The Top Ten Tasty Tips are the basis of a guest post I’ve been asked to write for FourThirds – I’ll post a link to that once they’ve published it. A selection of the feedback so far: “Luke spoke at one of our DJC [...]

Jun 25, 2009: Testing through the Credit Crunch at Talbot Campus, Bournemouth University

The current economic turmoil is nearly as bad as the great depression and not so long ago Gartner suggested that the investment in technology was going to drop. They have dropped the increase in spending from 5.8% down to 2.3%. This may not seem a lot but when companies spend millions on IT each year it adds up very quickly. Unfortunately past experience has shown that testing departments are the ones who suffer first.

Re: [dotdorset] Good Places to post Job Vacancies

Hi,
The students have all just finished Uni and will be looking for jobs.
See if you can get it posted on the job board in the Uni?

Good Places to post Job Vacancies

Hi all,

I wonder if anyone has any good tips for places to post web designer
job adverts locally. We're in the process of recruiting a Full Time
Junior Web Developer and I wonder if anyone has had any good tips and
ideas for places to post. So far I've put it on Gumtree Bournemouth
and it's on our own website, but other ideas would be really welcome!

RE: [dotdorset] UX Book Club Bournemouth

Hope it goes well, Adrian.

UX Book Club Bournemouth

Now has it's own mailing list

and twitter account :-)

The current excuse for a plan is to pimp the idea a bit more this week
- then start thinking about picking a book next week. We've got around
a dozen folk split amongst the wiki at [link],

Re: [dotdorset] Re: UX Book Club Bournemouth?

... and I've not forgotten that I said I'll send you some pointers to
introductory agile info (mostly coz Kathryn reminded me :-) - just not
had a second yet.
Cheers,
Adrian
